Grandpa is Coming
My grandpa is coming in from Iowa tonight. He's going to stay down at the shore house for a month and then go to Kansas with us when we go to my cousin's wedding at the end of October.
Anyway, he's coming in tonight and my dad and Jamie are going to pick him up. My dad will take him to the shore tomorrow then the two of them are going to go Tuna fishing on Saturday (but it might be Friday). They are going to catch BIG ones too! Because of the time of year, the boat going out is going to catch fish that are a minimum of 100 lbs each.
For those of you unfamiliar with ocean fishing, there are charter boats that go out deep sea fishing with the purpose of catching a specific fish. The ships go to the area of the ocean where the target fish will be swimming at that time of year. You can take trips to catch Blue Fish or Tuna or other large fish that swim together or you can take generic charters to catch whatever you might catch. When I was 15, we went on a generic charter and caught a Mahi Mahi (Dolphin Fish). I didn't like that fish. It tasted like chicken. I prefer the flounders and other lighter tasting fish. Tuna, Blue Fish, Sword Fish, Salmon, Shark, etc. are too "meaty" tasting.
Wow! I went off topic there. Anyway, the boat they are taking is going to catch 100 lb tuna. I hope my grandpa survives it because he is 83! He is just so determined though. He was in the navy (Pearl Harbor Vet) and thinks he can still do everything... even after having a heart attack my mom and my aunt had to take turns spending weeks with him in Iowa to make sure he was resting! We originally wanted him to come out in August when the boat was catching 50-75lb tuna but he insisted he wanted to catch "the big ones" and refused to come out until he could do that.
I am also hoping the captain lets him go out because my dad tried SEVERAL charters who all had room until they found out how old Grandpa was. My dad conveniently did not mention age when registering for this boat.
I hope my dad does well too though. He's not very healthy but thinks he is. You can't eat nothing but fried food and never exercise and expect to fight a rather large fish. I would hate for something to happen to him.
Tell me I am worrying for nothing... please.
