Time for some updates! Starting with the Phillies.
Alright, first things first.
Last week, the Philadelphia Phillies made history by winning the WORLD SERIES for the first time in 28 years! The best part is that I even got to go and be there the moment the won! Well, sort of.
For game 3, I was going to watch from home. All alone with my cable free TV that has very bad reception. My friend Angel was down at the sports complex because she and a few other people (Hugo, Rick and Amanda) were at a Flyers game. About 30 minutes before the Phillies game started Angel called me and told me that I needed to come down to the city to watch the game with them at McFaddens (which is the bar adjoining the park). She didn't have to work hard because before I knew it I was showered and on my way down to the ball park.
I'm so glad I went because it was a really great game to watch and even more fun to watch with people who really wanted to see the game.
We watched the game while sitting in the patio area... all bundled up in our winter coats and everything!
When the game ended, Rick, Hugo and Amanda wanted to go home so Angel told them to go because she could get a ride back with me. (She and I are DIE HARD Phillies fans and EVERYONE knows it too). So, she and I ran up to the gates to be nearer to where the game was played. We were overwhelmed before the game when we were standing there because we realized that the WORLD SERIES was in our town and we were right there! So, after the game we ran to the gates again, but this time they were open, so we ran inside - just to be surrounded by the excitement then ran down the stairs to be as close to the field as we could get without being arrested. It was exciting because OUR PHILS were in the World Series and it was being played at OUR BELOVED field.
Oh, by the way, throughout the season, she and I gave different players fun nicknames. By the end of the world series the entire starting line up and a couple pitchers got their names too. The names will be my next post.
So, then the Phils won game 4 and that left game 5. If they won game 5 we would have fileted some Rays and won the WORLD SERIES.
At this point, my friend Brent came down from New York to be in Philly when they won. He is the BIGGEST Phillies fan I know. Seriously.
This is where it gets fun.
Monday
Angel and I decided to watch the game at the home of some of our friends in Roxborough (a section of Philadelphia). Brent joined us because he didn't have anyone else to watch the game with and he wanted to watch it with people who really wanted to see it. The 3 of us decided that in the bottom of the 5th we would drive down to the park to be there when they won.
Well, turned out to be a bad decision to watch the game with a bunch of people who didn't care about the game because they were just distracting. Seriously.
In the bottom of the 5th we decided to wait until the 6th before we went down. I don't remember why we did that but I'm glad we did because in the bottom of the 6th, they decided to postpone the game!
This was the first time in the HISTORY of the MLB that the World Series was ever postponed.
Needless to say, we were heartbroken
Wednesday
Take 2. This time we didn't care. We were going down to the city!
Brent, Flocco, Glenn, Angel and I all drove down to watch the game at McFaddens. After standing in line for 30 minutes we found out that there was a $40 cover to get it. That wasn't worth it so we decided to just listen to the game on the radio in the parking lot. Then Angel had the brilliant idea that we should go to the Wachovia Center (where the Sixers and the Flyers play) so see if we could get into the American Pavillion, the adjoining bar over there. We were not sure about it because it was the Sixers' opening night, but we tried it. We got in too! No problem. They just let us in. Angel and I were hungry (because the boys didn't pick US up anything at Wawa) so we decided to find food and we were even allowed on the concourse while the 76ers were playing! It was crazy. As we were looking for Crab Fries, we passed another bar, Finnegan's Wake, which was pretty much empty, so we left the boys there and went for our fries. When we returned, the boys were NO WHERE to be found but we noticed stairs going to an upstairs room, so we decided to go up there to look for the boys. We got upstairs and it was practically empty and that wasn't all! It was a CIGAR LOUNGE complete with comfy leather chairs and big screen TV's. Angel and I decided to stay and let the boys find us. They eventually called and came to join us. It was great! It wasn't crowded and we got to see the game while down in the city. Not just outside the city- We were within 200 yards of the park!
When the Phils won we of course went nuts with excitement and were soon outside to be part of the fun!
