The Wedding
It's been a few days but I have a little bit of time to post about the wedding now.
It was very nice. Not nearly as formal as I was expecting. It was VERY formal by Kansas standards but pretty casual by East Coast standands.
Carrie had a "baby wagon" in her wedding! It was so cute. Her nephew was in it and so was Travis' niece, Lexie (my 2nd cousin I guess). Both were dressed in adorable little outfits. Sebastyn even had a little tux! Very cute.
The flower girl was about 9 (Sabrina) and the ring bearer was my cousin Troy's step-son, Gage, who is 8. Before the wedding the two were talking to me about how stressed they were about the ceremony. I had to ask why and they told me it was because they did not know if they should touch or not when they walked back down the aisle! How cute is that? I asked if they were embarrassed to touch and they assured me they were not it was just they thought it would be too awkward. Gage's concern was "what if she take's my arm the wrong way? Then we'd be uncomfortable the whole way down the aisle". At this I offered to help them practice in another room but they didn't want to. So, I told them not to worry about it because since Carrie said they did not have to touch they could just walk close to eachother. That is what they did.
My songs went well except for the fact that the stupid wrap I was wearing kept falling off during the first song! It was hard to keep it on holding a microphone! I was so glad I just limped up onto the stage without Abel. Can you imagine holding a cane in one hand and microphone in the other and struggling with a wrap all at the same time? By the second song I had the hang of it. Oh! I had the words to one of the songs up on the back wall because I did not know it very well. Turns out the flower girl was reading along while I sang. I was a little embarrassed by that but everyone who saw thought it was cute.
The reception was nice. Like I said, it was very very formal for a Kansas wedding but not for the East Coast. I got to dance the dollar dance with Travis. That was fun. We danced to "Itty Bitty" by Allan Jackson. About every song played was a country song. They even had some line dances. It was crazy! The DJ wore a BIG black cowboy hat and he talked so funny! Jamie and I laughed all night long. I really lost it when he said "They done put some wine out so go get you some". He was not bad to look at though until I found out he was only 20! Grandpa danced a slow song with me. That was funny too because he kept swinging his arms like he was dancing with a 5 year old. I had to keep telling him to slow down. What a funny old man. The next morning, at breakfast, Aunt Monie told me that my asking Grandpa to dance with him made his night. That made me feel good that I made a fool of myself with him.
As the reception ended I was talking with Carrie and telling he that I just LOVE Kansas! It is such a different way of life I might just want to live there. Might just want to live there... not really want to live there.
